Thanks to funding from the Andrew's Charitable Trust, Excellent Development Kenya have been able to move into new offices in Kola. We have been able to set up solar power for laptops and hope to enable mobile internet access, so our staff will be able to stay close to the communities they work with. They will also be able to do their work efficiently without having to travel 30km to Machakos, the nearest town with electricity and an internet cafe. The building also acts as an expedition centre, where volunteers can stay when building dams or carrying out research projects.
Furthermore, we are renting the building from the Utooni Self Help Project, the group that inspired Excellent's work. This way we are providing them with a source of income while they continue to work on improving their food and water security. This solution also enables us to remain in Kola without meeting the expense of constructing our own building.
